Headlining musical acts named for upcoming Bluebonnet Fest

The musical entertainment lineup for the 70th annual Bluebonnet Trails Festival of April 8-10 has been announced by the City of Ennis who with other entities is sponsoring the event which is presented by the Ennis Garden Club. The headlining performer will be country music singer Rick Trevino and his band. Trevino is known for such hits as ‘Bobbie Ann Mason,’ and ‘She Can’t Say I Didn’t Cry.’ He will be supported on the bill by PRB Band, The Rich Girls, Windbreakers, Allan Conner and Infinite Journey.

Breathing life into ‘new’ City Hall

Exiting the century old corner of South Dallas and West Brown, city employees and leaders have vacated the former Municipal Court building and moved into the newly remodeled City Hall building at 107 North Sherman Street. While the four-block exodus isn’t complete, City Manager Marty Nelson confirmed that 14 of the 18 making the initial transition have arrived at their new location.

The story of a pioneer settler of Ellis and Navarro Counties, Emily Middleton, which began in last week’s edition of the Ennis News, is the special contribution of Sugar Glaspy of The Ennis Heritage Society. Glaspy spoke recently to the organization about Middleton and her connection to the discovery and preservation of Middleton’s diaries which tell of the wonder and struggles of life in the late Victorian times of the Ennis area.

Robber given 40-years

Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that Anthony Bridgewater, 57, of Crowley, Texas, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony with an enhanced punishment range of 15-99 years in prison or life.

Mathes returns as Austin principal

Ennis ISD has announced that Kara Mathes will be the new principal of Austin Elementary. Currently serving as principal at Phillips Elementary in Kaufman, she will take the reins from Bobby White, who will trade his position at Austin for the new role of Family and Community Engagement Coordinator at EISD.

There’s a story about a person who saw an angel walking down the street. The angel was carrying a torch in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. “What are you going to do with that torch and that bucket of water?” the person asked. The angel stopped abruptly, looked at the person, and said, “With the torch, I’m going to burn down the mansions of heaven; and with the bucket of water, I’m going to put out the fires of hell. Then we’re going to see who really loves God.”
