Raburn elected mayor by wide margin

On Saturday, May 4, Ennis elected a new mayor in 29-year-old Kameron Raburn. The race between two former city commissioners projected Bill Honza, 53, as the establishmentbacked probable favorite against Raburn, an up-and-comer.

Who doesn’t enjoy a parade? In Ennis, the answer is – nobody. The 57th Annual National Polka Festival Parade, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday morning, May 25, in the heart of downtown.

This year’s event has upped the ante with cash incentives in three categories, each with first, second and third place cash prizes awarded by the Ennis Chamber of Commerce. As always, fans will line-up early along W. Ennis Avenue for prime seating placement.

Coach Harrell honored in Cleburne

Ennis Hall of Fame football coach, Sam Harrell, was honored at both a dinner on Sunday night and during the 21st Annual Cleburne Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast on Monday morning. The event was sponsored by the Cleburne Christian Business Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Results from Ellis County Joint General and Special Elections revealed the choice of 8.23 percent of the 141,505 registered voters in 44 individual races, including mayoral campaigns in three cities, and a number of city council or commissioners and many for school board members.

Ennis had seven individual races, three of them with unopposed winners.

An election season featuring a full gamut of races, from the Ennis ISD, to the City Commission, to a spirited Mayoral campaign, builds to a crescendo this weekend. Election Day results, set for Saturday, May 4, will not be announced until the evening, after this edition is printed.
