Bragging rights between friendly rivals, Ennis and Waxahachie, continued on Friday night. While things have been nasty for years, inhabitants of the two towns often root for one another as long as the opponent isn’t each other.

Soon after Jesus had resurrected, we find a beautiful passage found in John chapter 20 that is a wonderful example of how much God loves us and wants to encourage us. The friends and family of Christ were gathered together after his horrific crucifixion and were still grieving over his death when all of a sudden, he appears in their midst! Even though they remembered how he had promised to return I’m sure they were still awestruck. Jesus stretches out His hands and reveals his previous wounds, and of course, they are overjoyed to see him again.

“I guess I’m having my second childhood,” said my 90-year-old aunt in our telephone conversation this weekend. “I never had tonsillitis as a child but now I’m on my second week of antibiotics for what they’re calling ‘tonsillitis.’”

Since she has been homebound, I called to report what news I could think of, and to learn from her, too. We discussed the calendar, school starts, birthdays and anniversaries.

“I noticed that Tuesday was the one-year anniversary of Aunt Mary’s death,” I said.

She paused for a moment and then answered boldly: “No, it wasn’t.”

No, these aren’t verses from one of the Bible’s prophetic books, though it makes you think.

A history of being notoriously difficult to govern, empires and nations have failed to pacify Afghanistan. Historians call it the Graveyard of Empires. Apparently.

The exodus from Afghanistan has turned America into a laughing stock around the world, all the while continuing to blame ‘45’ for what is happening on 46’s watch. Last Sunday he defended his decisions saying he had no regrets and did what had to be done. He flatly stated he made a judgment that no one else could make. Or no one would’ve made.

Matching chairs

My husband, Peter, and I have matching folding chairs.

Every Thursday evening this summer, we have attended the outdoor concert held in a local park. The music is usually good, but the food trucks are undeniably the center of the experience. Our favorite is the “Tot Boss” that sells tasty, hot tater tots out the window of the truck.

Peter and I bring our own chairs. We get comfortable in our folding chairs, eat our tater tots, listen to the music, and watch the people and dogs go by. It’s hard to beat a night of outdoor music, tater tots, and people-watching.
