It was a dark February night when I sat, motionless, in my back driveway after a line of raging winter thunderstorms left its mark on Perry, Fla.
Electrical power was out as far as the eye could see.
Limbs, pine boughs and other debris were scattered across the roads.
It was the darkest of dark at 9 p.m.
In the bend of my back driveway, which resembles a nature trail, I realized my next obstacle would be two small pine trees, both extending across my path, about two feet off the ground because the trees had snapped at that point.
