Every decade since Lion Memorial Stadium opened (in 2000) the playing surface is rolled up and taken away and is then replaced by a new rug. The work was completed prior to commencement exercises. It also included a new all-weather track surface and a pair of goal posts.
Athletic Director Don Drake pointed out the flourescent yellow posts, which help indicate the worth of extra-point kicks and field goals during football games. The new ones have wind streamers at the top of the upright poles. They show the direction and velocity of local winds.
