When he got the ball in his hands the entire Tribe Nation stood to their feet in anticipation, and he seldom disappointed. I see him reaching higher levels because of his competitive nature.

Jake Brown’s senior year began as the back-up quarterback to Clark Harrell, the heir-apparent to his record-setting All-State brother. Graham won championships in both 2001 and 2003 while shattering passing marks and assembling a 41-3 ledger.

Little did Brown know while running routes as a slot receiver that he would soon be re-routed to another position where he would be the one leading the team on a route to glory.

Big 5 Softball season on hold

With school activities shelved through April, the odds of any spring sports resuming grow bleaker each passing week, though Ennis junior third baseman Mattie Beakley, one of the area’s best player, keeps to her mantra, “We can only hope.”

The 5’10 utility player who lines frozen ropes from the batter’s box remains active and trusts the coronavirus that is making its mark across the planet will subside in the coming weeks. But she’s not holding her breath.

Jake Brown joins Aranda at Baylor

Former 2004 Ennis state-champion QB Jake Brown was hired in March as the quality control coach for the Baylor offense. The position carries much influence into the Bears attack, and is sometimes referred to as Offensive Analyst. Part of his job description in Waco will be scouting opponents and breaking down film.

He comes to Baylor after serving as the offensive coordinator at Division II West Texas A&M. The college (enrollment 10,169) is located in Canyon, just 13 miles south of Amarillo.

Hendrix bench-presses billy goats gruff

Former All-District offensive lineman, Kage Hendrix, who starred at both Palmer and Ennis, recently earned an honor combining his physical strength and aesthetic skills while at home during the extended spring break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

HC Adam Dorrel challenged players in each position group to videotape the most creative or inventive workout regimen while at home. Hendrix, a 6’3, 294-pound two-year letter winner who was also on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. He has played in eight games in each of his two seasons.
