Nellie Bedee Hedderman Jordan
Nellie Bedee Hedderman Jordan was born Aug. 17, 1922, in San Antonio, TX, at Lackland Air Force Base to Francis and James Hedderman. Soon after her birth, her parents divorced and her mother moved Nellie and her four siblings to Houston, and eventually Dallas.
She married Arthur Wain Jordan in Dallas on May 30, 1945 while he was serving in the U S Coast Guard. They lived in Grand Prairie for several years while both working at LTV. They subsequently moved to Oak Cliff to be close to family. They enjoyed spending time with Nellie’s siblings and their families playing dominos and enjoying boating on nearby lakes. After several years of Arthur’s daily roundtrip travel to his job at E-Systems in Greenville, TX, the Jordans moved there on a permanent basis. They developed many friends and served the congregation as members of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Upon Arthur’s retirement, Nellie and Arthur enjoyed assisting with estate sales, collecting and restoring antique clocks, and vegetable gardening. They often shared with others the abundance of vegetables they grew in their garden. After Arthur passed away, Nellie lived in Greenville until 2010 and then moved to Ennis to be closer to family. She lived at the IOOF Residence and enjoyed the many friendships she developed there, along with the activities and celebrations that took place at the Center.
She passed away on February 5, 2021, at the age of 98 after a brief illness. Nellie is survived by several nieces and nephews including Bill Hedderman and wife Judy of College Station, Bobby Hedderman and wife Leigh of Austin, Cindy Rodgers and husband Terry of Ennis, Coy Johnson ll and wife Kathy of Richardson, and Charlotte Hedderman of Yokohama, Japan and many “adopted” grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
The funeral service was held at J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Chapel in Ennis, Texas, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021, followed by a private burial at Laureland Cemetery in Dallas. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church of Greenville, Texas, or International Order of Odd Fellows, Ennis, Texas.
