David L. Woods

David L. Woods, of Ennis, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2021.

He was born on June 29, 1957, in Houston, Texas, to Elgie and Mary Woods. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1975. After graduation he attended a trade school and became a Respiratory Therapist.

He worked at several area hospitals throughout his career, retiring from Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia, Texas.

David married Cathy Novak on August 3, 1985, and to this union they were blessed with two children, Aaron and Danielle Woods. On September 28, 2019, David married Vickie Richardson. David enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing and playing golf. David also enjoyed sharing his love of music by singing and playing his guitar at area nursing homes in Ennis. He recently became a grandfather to Aspyn Woods which brought him great joy and happiness. He was a Deacon and member of Anthony Drive Baptist Church where he enjoyed working in the community garden and cooking meals at the summer church camps.

David is preceded in death by his parents Elgie and Mary Woods, wife Cathy Woods, and sister-in-law Holly Friday. He is survived by his wife Vickie, son Aaron Woods and Kamisha Roberts, daughter Danielle and husband Hunter Hawkins, stepchildren Marc Defoore and wife Jessica, Josh Defoore, and Jake Defoore. Grandchildren Aspyn Woods and Angel Andrade. Brother Timothy Woods Sr. and wife Swetie, sister Becky Woods, nephews Brian, Matthew, and Timothy Woods Jr. In-laws George and Dae Novak, Ann and Don Claggett, Randy and Polly Novak, Sue Sampley and a host of family and friends. David will be deeply missed not only by his family and friends but also by the community that he served.

A celebration of life will be held at Anthony Drive Baptist Church, located at 801 Anthony Drive, Ennis, Texas 75119, on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of Flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Anthony Drive Baptist Church Community Garden in David’s name.
