The abandonment of Afghanistan: a day of national humiliation

Thousands of flag draped coffins and bereaved families; hundreds of thousands of families destroyed; trillions of dollars of money squandered; billions of dollars of sophisticated military equipment left behind; callous abandonment of Americans and Allies, friends and even service dogs, to fear, torture, executions and enslavement — this is an indictment and conviction not only of our Elites and leadership class but of the system that produced them. “Each in the cell of himself is convinced of his freedom... The day of his death was a dark cold day.” These are lines from the great poet W.H. Auden’s poem “In Memoriam of W. B. Yeats”. The day of the Aban donment of Afghanistan was not a dark cold day. Instead the betrayal was accomplished not just in the full light of day but, by our President. with defiance and

self congratulation, in the bright light of the cameras. A Day that will live in Infamy, to quote a truly great Democratic President. I hope voters do not forget.
