Paul Lamb
Paul Lamb, age 64, passed away November 11, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Paul was born in Ennis, Texas on January 17, 1957, to Goldie and Orbie Lamb. He was the youngest of eight. Paul lived in Ennis through high school, where he excelled as an athlete, student, and member of the community—in fact he was the first Ennis High School student to letter first team all-district in basketball, football, and baseball in the same year. After graduation, Paul earned a Bachelor’s degree in business from Baylor University and an MBA from Texas State University.
Paul was an incredible husband to his wife Christy, and father to his three children, Wade, Carly, and Dan, who never once had to wonder how much Paul cared for them. Always a reliable source of support, wisdom, and humor, Paul was the first person to be sought for advice.
The Lamb home was always full of visitors because Paul extended warmth, welcome, and a big hug to everyone. He would light up any room with laughter and was a world-class storyteller who continued to regale his family with stories until the end. Paul was so easy to talk to and be with, and he never lacked for conversation.
Paul’s commitment to his community is what motivated him in the last few decades of his life. Though he made his living in the insurance industry as the founding partner of a consulting firm, Paul’s passion was serving as Executive Director of a non-profit youth sports organization, the Westlake Youth Basketball Association (WYBA). Paul always said the role offered him the privilege to do “something he loved with people he loved for a community he loved.”
Paul first became involved with WYBA as a coach for his kids’ basketball teams, which was one of the many activities for which he volunteered his time. He coached much like he parented, offering support, laughter, and guidance. Paul continued to serve his community through work with WYBA long after his kids grew too old for the youth league, helping to grow the association into an organization of which he was very proud.
Paul was gentle with an optimistic and generous heart, was a great father, and was a loving husband and partner to his wife of thirty-nine years. Paul cherished being a grandfather and loved every moment he spent with his 14 month old granddaughter. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Paul is survived by his wife, Christy Wade Lamb, and three children: Dan Lamb, Wade Lamb and his wife, Leilani Lamb, and Carly and her husband, John Runge, and their daughter Riley. Other family members surviving Paul are his sisters Donna Lamb and Jane Mecom and her husband Jim, and sister-in-law Laurette Lamb. First generation nieces and nephews who survive Paul are Keith and Michael Brown, Teri and Vicki Crow, and Chris and Michael Mecom. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and Orbie Lamb, brothers Dan and Duaril Lamb, and sisters Doris Crow and Madge Brown.
A celebration of Paul Lamb’s life will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, at All Saints Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas (7808 Rialto Blvd, Austin, TX 78735). For those who wish to attend virtually, the live service can be viewed at allsaintsaustin.org/paul-lamb.
