Birdie Mae Brown
Birdie Mae Brown was born on June 21, 1922, to her late parents John Brown and Cordie Williams Haynes in Pelham, Texas. She was educated within the Pelham School District. She accepted Christ at an early age. Years later, she met and married Mr. Ruben Brown. To this union there were 13 children (seven boys and six girls).
She and her husband Ruben moved to Ennis, Texas, in 1954. During that year, she united with Fourth Ward Baptist Church and served on the Missions Department and the Mother’s Board under the leadership of the late Pastor James McNeil. Birdie Mae continued her membership and service with the church under the leadership of Pastor Steven Edwards. In her later years, she often enjoyed attending Holy Temple Church and sharing her testimony of the goodness of the Lord!
Birdie Mae worked as a domestic serving the Sharpe, Livingston, and Christian families in the Ennis community during the early years of her marriage. She was later employed at Ennis Nursing Home, Outreach Healthcare, and Adams Hat Factory (Corsicana) where she retired. However, if you really knew her, you knew she would not be retired for very long! Upon her retirement from Adam’s Hat factory, she began providing healthcare for Mr. Warren Lister, her long time neighbor for over 15 years until his death. Her family and the Ennis community adored her. She loved traveling with her family and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan!
Birdie Mae Brown fell asleep in the arms of the Lord on Dec. 29, 2021, at the blessed age of 99. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ruben, and children Harold Brown, Ruby Jewel Rogers, Cleastine Boston, Charles Edward Brown, and Bobby Ray Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory Christine (Granville) Wilborn, Mary Ann (Melvin) Robinson, Robert Earl Brown, David Lee Brown, Doris (Samuel) Green, Joyce (Marvin) McElroy, Ruben Thomas, and Timothy (Gloria) Brown; aunt, Mrs. Helen Williams and a host of relatives and friends. Additionally, she leaves a legacy of 48 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, 93 great great children, and 24 great-great-great-grandchildren and counting!
