Mark Steven Rogers

Mark Steven Rogers, 61, of Ennis, received his healing and reward as he transitioned from this world to Heaven on May 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Mark is survived by his wife, Paula, and four children, Steven, Brad and his wife Jody, Kandice and her husband Taylor Hardy, Cory, and Rachel Rushing, his daughter-in-love; grandchildren Bailey, Charlie, Joel, Jonah, and Judah; siblings Judy and J. B. Marshall, Kathy and Rodney Venable, Jo Rogers, Sonny Rogers, Gale and E.L. Sublett, and Penny Novak; and a large extended family.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Alford and Lorraine Rogers, and his sister and brother-inlaw, Iris and Jimmy Williams.

Mark was born in Fort Hood, Texas on July 21, 1961. He was the seventh out of eight children and is remembered as the most active and independent of the bunch. He attended school in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School. He married Paula Venable on September 3, 1983 in Ennis. In his younger years, he was a bricklayer for Eugene Lipsey and a truck and trailer technician at Coal City Cob. More recently, he worked as an alignment specialist and warranty manager for Rush Truck Centers for 18 years.

Mark was a guy who loved almost any type of sport. He played for various softball and volleyball leagues and loved trying his hand at golfing and fishing. He also loved playing the bass at church and even traveled for a time with his sisters, the Rogers Sisters, as soundman, bass player, and stage manager. He could figure out anything and was always ready to give advice, which was always good advice. You could take it or leave it, but if you left it, you might be in trouble. He was very involved with his family and gave of himself in so many ways, from providing a helping hand, to taking his grandchildren out for a ride on his power chair. He considered his greatest achievement to be his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed life to the fullest and to the very end. He also gave until the very end by donating his body to science for the research of inclusion body myositis, the rare disease from which he suffered. This selfless act will help those who have been affected by the same disease.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on May 21, 2023, at Foundation of Life Church, 2003 East Ennis Avenue, with Michael Rushing of Grace Tabernacle Church officiating. Flowers may be sent to Foundation of Life Church.

The family of Mark wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Merle Felecia, FNP-C; the staff of Hospice Plus; and our Grace Tabernacle Church family.
