Harold Chandler Brown
Harold Chandler Brown, 76, beloved husband, father, “Pops” and friend passed away on December 30, 2023.
Harold was born on February 22, 1947, to William Roy Brown and Frances Chandler Brown in Ennis, Texas. He was married to Linda Marie Pearce on December 5, 1970, until she passed away on December 27, 2012. He married Ann Smith on July 18, 2020, and relocated to Emory, Texas.
After graduating from Ennis High School in 1965, Harold earned a business degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. After graduation he entered a management training program with the Hartford Insurance Company in Dallas, beginning his long career in the insurance industry as an underwriter. In 1975, he relocated to Sherman and joined an independent insurance agency, Paul Casmedes Insurance, ultimately owning or co-owning firms culminating with Benton Luttrell Brown and Company. He still did contract work for Benton Luttrell Company until his passing.
He was a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and those who knew or did business with Harold could speak to his technical acumen and ability to advise individuals and businesses on proper insurance coverage and risk management. He easily connected his love of sports and consistent presence as a father by being active in coaching youth sports and education. He served as the Sherman Boys Club president, president of the Dillingham Intermediate School PTA, and a 3-year term as a Sherman ISD Board Trustee. Supporting friends and family as a fan and encourager was one of his greatest joys.
Harold attended First Baptist Church in Sherman and was a faithful member of J.D. Fuller’s couple’s class and the men’s class led by Joe Taylor. Harold also loved and appreciated the caring people he joined at Emory Methodist Church. Both churches provided meaningful relationships and support during challenging times.
He also was a member and director of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce, Travis Lodge #117 AF&AM Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club (where he was proud of his 19-year perfect attendance streak) and a member at Woodlawn and Stone Creek golf clubs. He is survived by his wife Ann; two sons, Greg and his wife Kristie, Brad and his wife Shannon; grandchildren Landon, Reagan, Brandt, Carson and Payton; sisters Linda Knippa and Betty Kay Brown Harrison; niece Lori and nephew Jeremy; cousins Jane Green, Peggy Erisman and Carolyn Bullard; and numerous Smith family members. He also is survived by lifelong friends and brothers Gary Lucas and Ray Glenn Davis.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at First McKinney on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A family-only graveside service will precede at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman. The family will receive guests at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
