Mary Alice Warrington
Our beloved matriarch, Mary Alice Warrington, passed away on January 15, 2024 in her home in Georgetown, Texas. She was 82. She was born in Waxahachie, Texas on April 9, 1941 to Bessie and Joe Kapavik. She was one of seven children who grew up in Ennis, Texas, went to St. John’s High School, and enjoyed growing up in her tightknit Czechoslovakian family and community.
She married the love of her life, Ivan Elmer Warrington on September 2, 1961. She often told the story of how he showed up at the bank where she worked, dressed in full-on fishing gear, to take her on a date and she was not quite sure what to think. Well, fishing aside, his charm won her over for they were married shortly after for 60 years and she was totally devoted to him.
Mary Alice began her career with Mercantile Bank in Dallas in 1960. She went on to work at Arlington National Bank while studying at The University of Texas at Arlington. In the following years, she held other positions with First National Bank of Lancaster, with First Consolidated Bank of Lancaster where she served as president, and with Equitable Bank in Dallas. In 2000, she joined Southwest Securities as a senior vice president over their Small Business Administration department, helping it become profitable within the first year. She was named president of the new Southwest Securities branch in Waxahachie in 2007, making it one of the highest grossing branches soon after it opened in 2008. Mary Alice retired in 2011, drawing to a close an outstanding tenure in banking spanning more than five decades. One younger colleague described her as “my favorite mentor”, which was not rare since she was a dedicated leader known for her kindness.
Mary Alice delighted in her four children, fourteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren and was affectionately called “Mema”. As a devoted mother, grandma, and great grandma, she embodied warmth, charm, humor, and grace, and was generous with her hugs and kisses.
She enjoyed flying with Ivan and her children in their Twin Comanche. They flew to Padre Island, Bermuda, New Orleans and countless other adventures, wherever that small plane could take them. They also set out on other travel excursions by camper, motor cycle cruising (big hog style), and even boating and sailing.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Joe Kapavik; her husband, Ivan Elmer Warrington; siblings, Joe Kapavik, John Kapavik, Agnes Cinek; and grandchild, Ryan Warrington.
Mary Alice is survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Zabnojnik, Helen Maliska, and Francis Swofford; and by her beloved children Karen Davis and husband Steve, Paul Warrington and wife Jennifer, Janice Burkhart and husband Tim, Brent Warrington and wife Kari; grandchildren Kyle Davis, Austin Davis and wife Abbi, Jake Davis and wife Danielle, Grant Davis, Cole Warrington and wife Savannah, Luke Warrington, Beau Warrington and wife Alyssa, Emma Warrington, Rachel Burkhart and husband Zach Chambers, Madelyn Morgan and husband Kevin, Elliot Burkhart, Kylie Warrington, Ethan Warrington; and great grandchildren Hudson Davis, Hayes Davis, Rosie Davis, and Hazel Chambers.
Mary Alice was a woman of faith who lived to bless others as she too had been blessed by the Lord. She will be sorely missed and her departure gravely felt not only by her entire family but also by countless others in her wide-network of community who loved her deeply.
A Rosary and Visitation will be held for family and friends on Sunday, January 28th at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Ennis, Texas. The Rosary will begin at 5:30 PM and the visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 29th at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Nepomucene in Ennis, Texas. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A meal will follow, with the family, at SPJST Hall located at 1901 East Ennis Ave, Ennis, Texas.
