Donna Jeanne Hicks

“Yesterday, shortly after a timely phone call from her sister Bonnie, mother passed away quietly and peacefully at home, surrounded by her three children. Maybe it was the closure Mom needed when Bonnie told her that she had finally found their mother’s beloved recipe for Tamale Pie that they had both been looking for for years or it was just hearing her sister’s voice one more time that brought closure and comfort to Mom and allowed her to let go. Whatever it was, just about ten minutes later Mom took her final breath.

Mom, was a self proclaimed loner but the love and beauty she shared with her family and those who were fortunate to have known her was tremendous. Her hands were her primary means of communicating with others. Not because she was deaf but rather because she was uncomfortable in social situations. So sharing her love for us came easiest, not so much in the words she spoke, but when she was teaching us a craft of some kind, or working in the garden, or teaching her oldest daughter how to play the piano.” - Allison
