Helen Elizabeth Dodson Dent
Helen Elizabeth Dodson Dent departed this earthly life to see her Lord and Savior on July 4, 2020, in Mansfield, Texas, at the age of 84. She was born on June 11, 1936, in Alsdorf, Texas, to James Odell and Gladys Naomi (McCaleb) Dodson, the third of seven children.
On March 7, 1953, Helen married the love of her life, Forrest “Weldon” Dent. They made their home in Ennis, Texas. Into this union were born two children, Terry Lynn and Joe Lee. They were together for 33 years before his sudden death on October 1, 1986, at age 51.
Helen attended Ennis High School and Navarro College. She started her working career as a switchboard operator. She was proud to have worked after Weldon’s passing, retiring from the Texas State Department of Transportation in 1996.
Helen was a beautiful person both inside and out. She was a loving, caring, gentle and compassionate person. After Weldon’s untimely death she carried on, but with a heavy heart. Helen was blessed by her church family at Baylor Baptist Church. Heaven just got the Angel we lost.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Gladys Dodson; husband, Weldon Dent October 1986; son, Joe Lee Dent January 1979; grandson, Derek Lee Foster October 2004; sisters, Martha Jean Phinnell March 2017 and LaVern Dodson March 2016; brother, James Dodson, Jr. March 2012.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving daughter, Terry Dent Foster and husband Bill, of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Leslie Anne Foster of Euless, Texas; grandson, William Hilliard Foster, IV of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Joe Dodson and wife Mary Lee, Billy Dodson and wife Judy, all of Ennis, Texas and sister Kathrine Lynn of Houston, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
Visitation for family and friends was held on Friday, July 10, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 2 p.m., at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel in Ennis with Pastor Chet Hensley officiating. Interment followed at the Myrtle Cemetery.
