James Thomas Jones, 91, left this earth on September 25, 2021. On September 25, 1930, James was born to Weldon and Mabel Jones in Palmer, Texas. He was the oldest of three boys. He grew up in Bardwell and Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1949.

He served the US Army in the Korean War. After returning home, he married Elsie Mae Smith in 1962. They remained married until her death in 2014. They had two children, a son, Mark and a daughter, Elisa. They lived in Dallas where he worked for the US Postal Service. They returned to Ennis in 1978 and he continued to work for the Post Office until his retirement in 1990.

After retirement, he spent much of his time tinkering with engines and keeping things running. He had a knack for “southern engineering” things that he deemed in need of improvement. He attended conferences daily at either the donut shop or Dairy Queen discussing very important topics and solving the worlds problems with other great minds of Ennis.

James was always on the go (at high speeds) either traveling the country with Elsie or the backroads of Ennis. He was loved by all who knew him and his absence will be felt by everyone who called him family or friend.

James was preceded in death by his parents (Weldon and Mabel), wife (Elsie), his brothers (Larry and Bill Jones) and nephew (Brian W Jones). He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law (Mark and Monica), his grandsons (Daniel and Dylan), daughter (Elisa) and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Boze-Mitchell-Mckibbin Funeral Home in Ennis, Texas. Graveside service was held at Telico Cemetery on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11 a.m.
