Leona Valek Honza

Leona Valek Honza, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Ennis, Texas, on Sunday morning, October 2, 2022.

Leona was born on September 28, 1930, in Ennis, Texas, to Tom J. and Annie (Honza) Valek. She graduated from St. John High School. On October 8, 1949, she married Raymond John Honza, and they made their home in Ennis.

Leona worked at Storey’s Manufacturing for many years. After she retired, she devoted her time to making even more memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as tending to her vegetable garden, cooking, including the best Czech pastries, and just enjoying being outdoors at her home in the country.

She was a member of KJT, SPJST, and a life-long member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

Leona is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Floyd Tolston; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Cindy Honza; grandchildren and families, Jessica and Paul Liska with children, Logan, Reid, and Holden; Nathan and Samantha Honza with children, Kayla, Jensen, and Heidi; Brandon and Jaci Honza with children, Berklee and Brody; Dylan and Taylor Honza with son, Levi; and Caroline Honza; sister and brother-in-law, Georgie and Raymond Svehlak; sister-in-laws, Agnes Garrard and Adell Valek and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Honza, Sr.; brother, Tom Valek; in-laws, Frankie and Georgie Honza, Charlie and Mary Honza, G.W. Garrard, and Edwin and Mildred Patak.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.

Mass of the Christian Burial took place on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Pallbearers were Nathan, Brandon, and Dylan Honza, Paul Liska, Jimmy and Gary Svehlak.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Cemetery fund, Ennis A&M Club (contact Mike Liska), Boston Giveand- Grow Scholarship (contact Penny Hollywood), Lionbackers, or the Ryan Wagliardo Scholarship (contact Cheryl Kelly).
