Sunday, August 18, 2024

Sylvia Ray Poitevent passed on August 9, 2024, at the age of 94. Sylvia was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1930. She was one of 9 sisters and brothers.

Sylvia married the love of her life, Tom Poitevent on August 24, 1949. Tom and Sylvia were married for 74 wonderful years. Sylvia was blessed with three children, Pamela, Tommy and Brian and daughter-in-law Mindy.

Later, as these children grew up and married, her family grew to seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was known by family and friends as Grandmother, and she loved it.

We always delighted in the beaming smile she gave to everyone in her life, especially her family. Mom had a shimmy that was unforgettable and loved to call all the kids “Sug” Grandmother spent most of her life as a homemaker in Ellis County.

She was a devout Christian, a devoted wife and mother, and a dedicated bridge player. Sylvia loved her garden club, wildflowers, and Ellis County’s famous bluebonnets. She loved to sit with a cup of coffee, or chardonnay, and read her magazines in her “grandmother” uniform of a black cardigan, gray skirt and leather belt.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Tom and all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Ennis on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10 a.m.

Grandmother specifically asked for donations to be made to her church in lieu of flowers.
