Let’s stay small town beautiful
Dear Editor:
For so many thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, the reign of Isis in the Mideast was a horrific nightmare. Their cruelties were unspeakable. Perhaps, nothing so epitomized that cruelty than their routine poisoning of wells. Poisoning the air — the air we all breathe, our kids, our Seniors, those with Asthma, COPD, other desperate respiratory illnesses, in other words the weak and vulnerable — ‘the least among us’ as Our Lord said. No water to drink, struggling to breathe — poison water, poison air.
Last Sunday’s — 9/27/20 — paper carried a public notice inviting comments about a cement plant to be built in Ennis. I’m sure the owners will make every effort to comply with all regulations. But does Ennis, does Ellis County need another Cement Plant of any kind? You don’t have to be a Green to worry about this. Ronnie van Zandt of Lynryd Skynard wrote a great song lamenting the concrete taking over. Let’s keep the air and water clean in Ennis. Let’s stay small town beautiful. And, let’s say ‘No!’ to anything, any new development or business that threatens what once is lost is never found again. Please read the Public Notice. Please write the Commission. Please speak up here.
