Ennis XC takes seventh in district

Both Ennis varsity cross country teams, boys and girls, finished seventh in this week’s District 14-5A meet. The Lady Lions have battled for ten weeks to reach full-team status and out-pointed the Lions with 204 points, topping their 165.

HC Lonnie Redning reported that Giovanna Mier-Navarro led Ennis in the 5K event with a time of 27:27, which was placed her at No. 32.

The next five concluded their season as follows;

Olivia Rodriguez, No. 40 (29:48),

Randi McAnally, No. 41 (30:05),

Skyler Phillips, No. 45 (37:37),

Linsey Gomez, No. 46 (38:49)

Ennis Cross Country is experiencing a youth movement at all levels of varsity, junior varsity and especially at the junior high level thanks to the energy of Coach Jada Cox. Overall, veteran Lonnie Redning and Tori Lenz have a young, talented cast gaining experience while earning their winged heels.

A rebuilt, retooled Ennis Varsity Boys Cross Country team scored a distant 12th in last week’s Midlothian XC (Cross Country) meet. Picking up 335 team points wasn’t enough to break the Top Ten, though Noah Bramhall was the quickest Lion on the five-mile course with a time of 19:30, good for 57th.

HC Lonnie Redning and the squad got off to a delayed start this season, but their six runners did qualify as a team.

The next five in maroon were: Martin Hernandez-Barriaga at 19:56, Brennan Snipes 20:23,

Caleb Duke 20:40, Brandon Welch 21:54, and Casen Padget 26:12.

Ennis JrHi Girls win Lions Den XC

Ennis Junior High School girls cross country team placed six runners in the Top 10 to pace the Lady Lions to a first place win in the Lions Den Invitational.

The JrHi boys, junior varsity boys and varsity girls teams did not have enough runners to qualify as a team (5 minimum). The varsity boys finished fourth as did the JV girls.
