Veteran Avalon HC Tony Hernandez and the Class 1A Lady Eagles compete in District 13-2A and are currently are 4-2. They opened with a 3-2 setback to Frost, then swept Dawson and Trinidad by 3-0, fried Rice 3-1 and mowed down Blooming Grove, 3-0, before losing to Palmer in straight sets.

As for the ongoing purpose of the Bluebonnet Call Center, where Gonzales is the coordinator, when a request for assistance comes in, it is quickly logged and forwarded to a team leader. They, in turn, pass the request to one of their volunteers to fulfill.

The Ellis County Illustrated Yearbook for 1881, contents of which have been shared on this page before, contained not only a great many advertisements for pioneering businesses in Ennis, Waxahachie and other cities but several pages of historical highlights on these towns.

The entry for Ennis has been shared already, and in today’s edition of the “Memories” page are included excerpts of fascinating material on the beginnings of Ferris, Palmer and other cities that first sprang up around the Houston & Texas Central Railway in the 1870s:

A couple of years ago I first shared some of these funny bits from the past and I was asked recently to collect a few more.
