Theatre Rocks, one of just three live theater groups in the Metroplex still in action during Covid-19, presents a classic adult drama, “A Trip to Bountiful,” this weekend (Sat., 7:30 p.m.) and next, Aug. 21, 22 and a 2:30 p.m. matinee on the 23rd.
According to several reports yet to be released, the wrong-way driver whose wreck killed a young Ennis man is expected to be charged with vehicular homicide.
Ennisites revere their history, especially of the grand old homes that lend the Templeton McCanless District its air of nostalgia. No doubt because the wrecking ball destroyed so many significant structures before preservation entered public consciousness, residents take pride in the few fine mansions that have been spared. Among these, even fewer remain in the possession of the pioneering families who built them. An exception is the gem of a residence lovingly maintained by Ray C. Telfair II, Ph.D. A retired wildlife biologist, Ray’s grandparents commissioned a leading architect to construct the asymmetrical Victorian-style frame house that’s graced one of the city’s prime thoroughfares since 1902.
It is no surprise that families interest in homeschooling has piqued. Like a suspenseful movie trailer increases your curiosity, a level of excitement can accompany the interest to such a level that one would seriously consider the subject.
People today are as uptight as a long-tailed cat in a room filled with rocking chairs. Officially, folks are woke. Grammatically it means “past of wake.” The expression “stay woke” refers to a continual awareness of societal injustice, primarily racism. Some people are so woke they see offenses everywhere, every day and by everyone.

Go after what you want. Channel your energy into what counts, and make this a year to remember. Stop worrying about what others are doing, and start figuring out what's best for you. Keep your plans to yourself until you have everything in place to avoid opposition. Look for a way to turn a negative into a positive. Seek out people who share your concerns. Don't waste time and energy on someone or something you cannot change.

Make things happen. If you lack what you need to follow a dream that excites you, pick up the skills, knowledge or whatever else is required. Shoot for the stars, and see what transpires. Strive for equality in your relationships. Converse with people who share your beliefs. If you show potential and that you are reliable, someone will offer support. Don't settle for less than what you want.
Others who’ve passed on have left memories of the legendary robbers’ swings through Ennis. The late Mary Catherine Webster, an EISD science teacher for over 40 years, recalled that Bonnie Parker, elegantly arrayed in a fur stole, walked into a dress shop on Ennis Avenue and sat down to watch a fashion show.

Your associations will make or break you this year. Choose your allies carefully, and know enough to walk away from users and unreliable people. Focus on what's important to you, and do your best to grow intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. Spend more time with people you look up to or who inspire you to do your very best. A show of enthusiasm will encourage others to pitch in and help you get things done.
