Judith Kyle Smith Oglesby

Judith Kyle Smith Oglesby, of Dallas, passed away peacefully June 16, 2021, after a 14 year battle with cancer.

Judith was born October 26, 1947, to John Stanton and Mamie Mullings Smith, of Mineola. She attended Baylor but received her BA in Journalism from SMU. While helping to run her husband’s dental practice and raising two children, she wrote a syndicated column in the Ennis Daily News.

The Fourth of July: it wasn't a party

When I look back to the Fourth of July during my earliest years, it wasn’t a party. There were no computer-generated displays of fireworks.

It would begin, instead, with a qui et picnic lunch underneath a church cross.

Ozymy wings way to 5th at state

Following in the footsteps of his athletic family, Avalon High School freshman, Jake Ozymy qualified for the Class 1A State Track & Field meet in Austin last month.

Competing in the 800 Meter Run, the 6-footer finished fifth in the state when he was clocked at 2:08.41. He was recognized by the University Interscholastic League as well as being named a member of the Ellis County High School Sports Awards 2020-2021 Boys’ Track and Field Team for his accomplishments in Cross Country and Track. The event, 800 meters, is roughly a half-mile or two laps around the track.
