Ennis either had the lead in litter, or local residents are simply committed to keeping the bluebonnet as the favorite roadside attraction.

The month-long North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge is a friendly competition between communities for gathering the most litter per resident from September 1 through October 31, 2021. The project has gotten off to slow start in terms of participating cities. In fact, the current Litter Leaderboard shows Mansfield passed Ennis and is currently No. 1.

Local group picking litter from waterways

Local volunteers are banding together to tackle litter in Lake Bardwell and other Ennis waterways, as part of the Keep Texas Waterways Clean program. Keep Ennis Beautiful (KEB) will conduct a cleanup with the help of dozens of volunteers on March 13.

Keep Texas Waterways Clean, the program supporting statewide community-based waterway cleanups, is brought to communities by H-E-B, Central Market and Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB). Applied locally, KEB raises public awareness about the need for healthy waterways and provides great opportunities for community engagement.
