Following input from citizens, on December 28, the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court allocated extra funding for the elections office to purchase sequentially-numbered, pre-printed ballots. Sequentially-numbered, pre-printed ballots ensure election results can be easily and independently audited, thus ensuring the security, integrity, and openness of Ellis County elections.

Harrison tops Wray in runoff

In what The Texas Tribune referred to as a contentious runoff between Conservative Republicans, Brian Harrison upset John Wray for the unexpired term for the District-10 seat in the House.

Harrison, 38, former chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President Donald Trump, prevented Wray, 51, from reclaiming the position he held for three terms, beginning in 2015. He won by a 55.3 to 44.6 percentage of a small 9.5 percent of registered voters.

Tuesday, Sept. 28, is election day for the special runoff to fill the open seat in the Texas House District (HD) 10, with two Conservative Republicans in the race, John Wray - of Waxahachie, and Brian Harrison – of Midlothian. It is expected to be tight race.

Encompassing all of Ellis County and a portion of Henderson County. Ennis, Waxahachie, Midlothian and a thin strip between the Cedar Creek Reservoir and the Trinity River. It includes 17 different school districts.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered Sept. 28 as the Special Runoff Election for the State

Representative District 10’s Unexpired Term. The announcement was official on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The notice for Ellis County included the early voting period, Sept. 20- 24, which is open for a section of Henderson County as well.

According to Jana Onyon, the Election Administrator for Ellis County, anyone voting early or on Election Day “can vote at any voting center polling location in Ellis County.”

Tuesday night at the Ellis County Grand Old Party (GOP) monthly meeting, now held inside the Champions Club at the Texas Motorplex, just northwest of Ennis, the two finalists for the State Representative seat in Austin, John Wray and Brian Harrison, squared off in a forum before a packed crowd.

The chief topics of discussion were all related to conservative concerns as they relate to Ellis County residents.

“It was a huge crowd,” said County Commissioner Lane Grayson, of Ennis. “This was a great representation of the subjects that conservatives are most concerned about.”

An octagonal ballot comprised of four Republicans, one Democrat, an Independent and a Libertarian will determine the Texas State House of Representatives District 10 seat on Tuesday, August 31.

The special election was announced on Aug. 6 by Governor Greg Abbott, which left voters just over three weeks before the election date. The open position was recently made vacant when Jake Ellzey won the District 6 congressional seat in Washington D.C.

Governor Gregg Abbott announced in a proclamation this week that August 31 is when the election for Texas House District 10 will take place.

Jake Ellzey, of Midlothian, won the seat in November of 2020. He left the position to run for the 6th Congressional District, which he won over Susan Wright.

Tuesday, Aug. 31, will be a special election to replace Ellzey. The State Rep seat in Austin is described as “reliably red” by the Texas Tribune. They also infer the HD-10 is comprised of largely rural areas south and southeast of Dallas.

Ennis atty enters State Rep race

Ennis resident Pierina Otiniano announced her candidacy on Thursday, Aug. 12, for the Texas State Representative for District 10. Ellis and Henderson Counties. Special Election Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Early Voting August 23-August 27.

Along with her five-year old son, who just entered kindergarten, they call Ennis their home, though she was originally born in Peru. Her family departed South America when Pierina’s sister was diagnosed with Leukemia at a very young age. They found both healthcare and opportunity in Texas.

Jake Ellzey Wins Texas Special Election over Susan Wright

Republican Jake Ellzey will finish the term of former Congressman Ron Wright in the United States House of Representatives after defeating Susan Wright in the special election runoff Tuesday night.

“One of things that we've seen from this campaign is a positive outlook, a Reagan Republican outlook, for the future of our country is what the people of the 6th District really really want,” Ellzey said to supporters following his victory.
