Hwy 34 Dangers
Highway 34 dangers
This week’s deadly wreck cost the lives of two truck drivers. A number of phone calls were made to The Ennis News’ offices, along with photos and video footage.
The stretch of pavement that connects Ennis with Scurry, Rosser and Kaufman has long been associated for wreaking havoc. Speed, no shoulders and two lanes, combined with 27 mostly-open miles between I-45 and US 175, has witnessed its share of fender-benders and fatalities.
Gravel-hauling 18-wheelers frequent Hwy 34, coming and going to quarries in the Scurry-Rosser area. Plus, there are vehicles using the road as a time-saving shortcut. Together they have caused windshield damage if not high-risk wrecks. There is simply no room for error.
Wednesday’s head-on collision and fiery aftermath should serve as a cautionary reminder to drive alertly, to pass with extreme care and avoid cell phones and texting behind the wheel. You never know what the oncoming traffic or trailing drivers are doing.
Combined with housing growth in Kaufman and construction in Rosser (new solar panel company being built), expect more traffic on the highway.
