Sokol awards scholarships

Thomas Betik, President of Sokol KHB of Ennis, presented Madeline MaKovy (left) and Anna Slovak with scholarships valued at $250 each. Both are 2019 graduates of Ennis High School. MaKovy, daughter of Andrew and Sara Jakubik, will be going to Tarleton State University to study agriculture with a focus in Animal science and agribusiness. Slovak, daughter of Darren and Debra Slovak, will be going to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Business. Slovak is also received the American Sokol National Merit Award.

Gentry estate sale opens Aug. 1

An estate sale of the contents of the former home of Ennis Daily News publishers Charles and Mary Helen Gentry, long in the planning, will finally take place beginning Aug. 1 and run over the next two days. The house at 503 W. Linden St., near Preston St., will be the site of the sale which will be held between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 1-3.

The Gentry family, assisted by Janet Rose Thomas, is hosting the sale in behalf of Mary Helen Gentry, 90, who now resides at Bluebonnet Rehab facility, 2300 S. Oak Grove Rd.
