EISD reports moves in administration

Ennis Independent School District announced administrative moves on Thursday, including news that Deputy Superintendent, Mr. Jason Gilstrap, has been named the Head of Schools with the Floresville ISD, thirty-five miles southeast of San Antonio.

Gilstrap has been with EISD since 2016. Friday, April 9 was his final day. Floresville (pop. 7,585) has five campuses in its school district of approximately 4,200 students. The Class 5A high school includes 1,234.

Freshpet added steel in construction this week

After months of dirt and foundational work, Freshpet, the fridgefresh pet food maker, went vertical this week with the addition of steel beams at Kitchen 3.0 in Ennis.

Originally planning to open the plant in the third quarter of 2022, the target has moved up to the

second quarter next year. Weather was a challenge in February with the winter storm but

Freshpet and its design and build partner CRB are working hard to make up any and all time

Remembering those who passed during the pandemic

Area residents attended a special tribute held at Minnie McDowal Park that honored relatives and friends who have passed away due to the effects of Covid-19. Those attending signed a banner recognizing the names of their lost loved ones.

Mayor Angie Wingo Juenemann, Pastor Darrell Nelson and Dr. Larry Jinks (ERMC) offered words of hope and prayer. Ennis Regional Medical Center, New Century Hospice and Bluebonnet Rehab at Ennis hosted the touching tribute. Strong, Resilient and Hopeful was the message during the event.

Mobile vaccination teams reaching Ennis residents

Ennis CARES Program continues to provide in-home COVID-19 vaccinations to the homebound and disabled who reside in the City of Ennis or are within the Ennis Independent School District.

Christen Vick, the director of Ennis CARES, was to the point when asked about the mission of the mobile vaccination teams. “We just want to give everyone in our community the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccine,” she said, “and the mobile vax team is helping make that possible for our homebound residents at no cost.”
