Ennis Fire Department has begun receiving applications for a key vacancy on staff, Deputy Chief. The high ranking position provides a salary range of $113,000 to $125,000.

Ennis opened a time capsule last year that was 50-years-old and discovered it had leaked and ruined much of its contents. Since then, staff have been collecting items about the city for a new container of symbols and memorabilia of the Bluebonnet City that will be preserved for the next 50 years. Many of the items have been on display in the lobby of the Welcome Center. They may be viewed through March 26. This sesquicentennial time capsule will then be closed until Ennis’ Bicentennial celebration in 2072.

Ellis County ballot includes more races

Spring elections in Ellis County will take place on Saturday, May 6, with most cities participating in mayoral or council or commissioner positions up for a vote, with many school board races already announced. Early voting dates run from April 24-29 and May 1-2.

First local theater guild founded in 1932

The performing arts in Ennis flourishes today with two popular theaters, Theatre Rocks and the Ennis Public Theatre, the latter founded in 2002. But community theatre is nothing new to Ennis. A local organization produced plays here in the 1970s, starring Ennis and Ellis County actors, including Dorothy Deavers.

The fundraising sale at Ennis Public Theatre (EPT), 113 N. Dallas St., went off without the proverbial hitch last week, according to Artistic Directors Julie Mitchell and Marcus Baldwin.
