News last week reported that scientists have actually grown part-human and part-monkey embryos in lab Petri culture plates. How could anything go wrong with this idea?

The researchers surely have considered the many ethical questions involved when they injected dozens of human stem cells into developing monkey embryos. It resulted in hybrids surviving for up to 20 days in the borosilicate glass dishes. After all, they were wearing lab coats.

As I typed up the details for an upcoming “marriage renewal” workshop, it occurred to me that the decision to marry comes with absolutely no mandatory instructions.

If you have the $93.50 for a license, you don’t even need a blood test anymore. You can just sally on up to the courthouse and make one of the biggest decisions of your life.

Now, if you want to get a driver’s license, you have to produce a whole folder of personal information, prove you’re not a terrorist and consider donating vital organs.

Hello! I am from Chicago IL, and I had the pleasure of attending this year’s Ubbi Dubbi Music Festival in Ennis, TX with my boyfriend, Ryan. I just wanted to say thank you so much to Ennis Texas for being such a great place, the Texas Motorplex for providing the venue, and for the amazing staff that hosted such a wonderful event. It was full of great vibes and positive energy and we had the best time ever!!! The EDM culture continues to bring such amazing people together and spread so much love! Can’t wait for next year!!

I would like to take some time to express my utmost gratitude to Ennis and the surrounding communities for hosting the festival. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Big thanks to the event staff for working hard and making sure everything went off smoothly. Not only did I make a lot of new rave buddies but also connected with some of the locals there. How reassuring it was to see the Bluebonnet City blooming in all of her brilliance over the weekend during the first outdoor event in a year in Ennis. Walking, shopping, interacting with scores of attenders, and snarfing down the cuisine of vendors was so gratifying, as was crooning with some great musicians.

The Bluebonnet Trails and Festival revealed the attraction and the favor that emanates from this town was evident for all. It was the result of the vision, planning and the hard work of a large cast this town is known for, and an estimated 35,000 were benefactors.

When people are mean

One thing that most of us notice is meanness, though almost always in other people. For example, of all the mean things that a person can do to me, there is an act, though likely unintended, that really, really gets my goat. Every time I experience it, I am propelled from nice guy to wannabe strangler.

My dangerous childhood

By today’s standards, I grew up with multiple possibilities of being maimed, sickened, or dying waiting around every corner. It is a wonder any kid I knew grew into adulthood. Most children in my day had experienced actually having diseases like mumps, measles, chickenpox, impetigo, colds, and earaches, and recovered from them well after a bit of suffering through. I’m not arguing for or against vaccinations, but just relating what I experienced. We survived all manner of things that could have maimed or killed us back then.

Bluebonnet festival hits a home run!

Dear Editor:

Rain may have threatened the beginning of the annual Bluebonnet festival but with the final note from the Spazmatics Sunday afternoon myself and friends concluded it was hands down the best Bluebonnet festival we have ever been to! Thanks to the organization staff and the Ennis Garden club for an amazing job. $5 is a steal for the quality of entertainment that was brought to town. Everyone I spoke with who attended the event expressed the same opinion that it was a great experience and an amazing success. Good job Ennis!
