Do you remember 1973? It was the year of the Watergate Senate hearings and investigations. It October of that year OPEC (Oil Producing and Exporting Countries) placed an oil embargo on nations that supported Israel during the Yom Kippur war. It was the same year the Vietnam war ended. It was also the year that the U.S. was experiencing 6.16 percent inflation. Spiro Agnew resigned, and Gerald Ford was appointed as Vice-President. It was a tough year.

Why the US should support Israel

The reason I believe the US should support Israel comes from two sources; conservative ideology and biblical ideology. The biggest reason for my supporting them is biblical.

From a conservative’s point of view, Israel is the only nation in the world which provides its residents freedoms similar to those provided to our residents. There are tragedies and then there are tragedies that reset everything else. The death of Philip Oliver “Ollie” Wiedemann last Friday along with his mother Candace Harbin, and the events surrounding that were the latter type of tragedies.

In the aftermath of these things, we generally ask questions like: How could she do that? What brought this to the point of despair where this was, to her, the only option? How can we prevent this sort of thing in the future?
