Lions battle Poteet for playoff berth

Ennis, riding a string of 12 years in a row in the playoffs, remains alive for the 4th place position in District 6-5A. While Heritage (5-0), Crandall (41) and Kaufman (4-1) have all but assured playoff tickets, Terrell seeks to nail down the final spot. Ennis holds onto hope they can earn post-season life with two wins, but must have Terrell go down twice. Point differential would then play a factor, but Friday’s home tilt with Poteet is a must.

New HC Jada Cox led the Lady Lions into their season opener on Friday. Krystiana Blanchard is one of several players being counted on to lead a new-look Ennis team against North Mesquite.

Zander Hinton

Junior QB Zander Hinton had his best outing ever against Terrell. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 373-yards and 5 TDs. He also ran with the ball three times for an additional 59-yards. His 432-yard effort sparked the Lions to a 36-35 lead with two-minutes to play. The visiting Tigers scored on their next play to win, 41-36.

Ferris, Avalon cresting at playoff time

HC Kyla Menefee at Ferris, and Avalon’s HC Megan Allred have calibrated their state-ranked volleyball teams with the playoffs in mind. Both are playing stellar ball, and should be well-oiled as the playoffs begin in a week.

Sunnyvale bullies Ferris, 45-6

Sunnyvale (3-3) used a quick-strike passing attack to build a 24-0 halftime lead enroute to a 45-6 win over Ferris on Oct. 11. While the Yellowjackets (2-4) outrushed the ‘Vale, 189-137, it was sophomore QB Cayson Maupin, who was true on 18-of-23 passes for 311-yards and 5 TDs, that dominated the game for the Raiders.
