Ennis came out firing buckshot from the outset. Stephon “Buck” Townsend dashed untouched 82-yards with the opening kickoff to trigger a 35-point first quarter and Ennis went on to dump Crandall, 54-9.

Two teams playing for the District 8-5A crown displayed much more defense than was expected, though it was the Lions ‘D’ and especially their special teams that made the difference. No. 1 ranked Ennis entered the game with just two punts all season. Collin Drake had four in this game, average of 52.5, including a 71-yard boot, to pin North Forney (7-1) deep in its own end of the field.

The Lions (7-0) were held to 38 points, the lowest since the Waxahachie game. The win extended their string of playoff berths to nine straight.

Scoring the first seven times they had the ball, No. 1 ranked Ennis clobbered Frisco Liberty as expected, 49-0, at Lion Memorial Stadium. The Lions’ bi-district win sets up Round 2 game against Timberview, who began the season ranked No. 7.

Quarterback Collin Drake accounted for all six touchdowns in the first half, two on runs of six and nine yards, and four through the air on throws of 11 to Laylon Spencer, 26 to Karon Smith, 11 on a swing pass to Dee Johnson, and 19 to Ashton Ehly.

In a hard-fought game where scoring runs were traded, visiting Joshua overcame an eight-point deficit and hung on to win, 51-49, over Ennis on Tuesday night. The Lions came up short for the third time in four District 14-5A games to drop to 4-4. They are tied with Red Oak in fourth place, both with four games to play.
