Ennis soccer plays at home on Monday, March 15, in a season finale for both the Lady Lions at 2 p.m. and the Lions at 4 p.m. The matches are slated for Lion Memorial Stadium with each team taking on Cleburne.

Lonnie Pollard coaches both sixth place squads, though the boys have enjoyed a much more competitive campaign. Chad Gandy is his assistant coach.

Following a pandemic shortened 2020 season in which Ennis posted a 5-5-1 record, the Lions are eager to play a normal campaign, or as close as possible. Head Coach Kellen Monreal begins his third year and has a new-look squad he is confident will contend for a playoff berth in the seven team District 14-5A. Asked by the Ennis News who are the team to beat in the league, Monreal said it will once again be one of the state’s best districts.

Ferris (16-11) managed to do what only Italy did in boys basketball season, win a play-in game to make the playoffs, plus both squads had a winning record.

First year HC Josh McGee accomplished much in his first campaign, including a pair of late wins over nemesis, Life H.S of Waxahachie (17-8), 49-43 and 52-43, the latter a play-in game. Both on the road.

In the bi-district opener, Ferris drew an athletic Dallas Lincoln, and the Tigers were just as McGee had seen.

It came, it went and no one answered the door. But it sure did knock a number of times.

A wild Saturday in which fifth place Red Oak defeated second place Waco University, lifting the Hawks into a three-way tie for third with Ennis and Joshua, ended in drama and celebration.
