Lady Lion netters devour Waco, 3-0

Ennis moved a huge step closer to returning to the state playoffs with a sweep over Waco University on Tuesday, a second 3-0 blanking of Team Purple this season. Should they care of Cleburne, at home, on Friday afternoon, they would secure post-season entry into the Class 5A playoffs.

The team has a pair of matches remaining, both on the road. They will meet second place Midlothian on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m., then travel to Joshua on Friday, Oct. 25, for a 5:30 p.m. start.

Ennis rallies past Cleburne, 3-1

HC Kelly Henderson witnessed her improving Lady Lions eliminate Cleburne three-games-to-one on Friday evening. After dropping the first game, 25-23, the hosts rolled 25-19, 25-21 and 25-11 to improve to 19-11 and 6-4 in district action. The victory also clinched a spot in the playoffs.

Youth was served at the District 14-5A meet in Cleburne, and the youngest Ennis team in years competed but did not send any representatives to the area meet. The varsity girls placed sixth among the seven teams while the boys culminated their season in last place.

Veteran HC Lonnie Redning used the word culmination to describe the final competition of the fall for his team of greenhorns.

Like a mighty river, Ennis Tennis roars and turns and crushes anything in its path. Head Coach Keith Howard (pictured in far left, back row) and his kings and queens of the court rolled over Mesquite Poteet on Tuesday, 10-0, and then flattened Hallsville, 10-2, on Friday at Wills Point.

The pair of triumphs this week extends the team winning streak to 10 and improves their overall mark to 10-2.
