Nancy Ann Glaspy Weldon
Nancy Ann Glaspy Weldon, 78, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in Ennis, Texas.
Nancy was born on August 15, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to J. Roy and Mary Ann (Maroney) Glaspy. Nancy grew up in Ennis, and graduated from Ennis High School in 1959. She went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1963. She taught speech at Lubbock High School, and coached the debate team for one year after graduation. On June 14, 1964, she married the love of her life, Don Weldon. They originally made their home in Dallas, TX, moved to Ennis in 1980, and spent a brief period living in New York, NY.
Nancy dedicated her life to raising her children. She substitute taught in DISD, and later taught full time at St. John’s High School in Ennis. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, and, after a suggestion by Jo Wesley, founded A-CROSS, which provides temporary shelter for people in need. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, White Rose Pregnancy Center, a clown ministry associated with Scottish Rite Hospital where her name was “Popcorn,” and other places. Nancy also received the Ennis Negro Chamber of Commerce “Volunteer of the Year“award. She enjoyed horses and dogs, dancing, playing tennis and bridge, and being with family and friends. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She worked at the Archdiocese of New York as a receptionist for Cardinal John O’Connor.
Nancy is survived by her husband of over 55 years Don Weldon, a son, Chad Michael Weldon and wife, Robin; daughters; Debra DiAnne Weldon, Rebecca Rene Weldon, and Kristi Anne Carlson and husband, Brandon; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a brother, Jerry Glaspy, along with a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Bill Glaspy.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Following the service there will be a visitation time.
