Robert Kent Wear
Robert Kent Wear, 76, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 29, at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler following a brief illness.
Kent is survived by his wife Debra Henry Wear; ex-wife Linda Howell Wear; son, Jon Mark Wear and wife Alison of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Jan Meredith Wear Quick and husband Jeff of Pflugerville, TX; granddaughter Lillian Beatrice Wear; grandson Xander James Quick; foster grandsons Chris and Jahsir, stepson William Edge and wife Cassie, stepdaughter Julie Portzen and husband Joe, stepdaughter Kimberly Williams and husband Johnny, cousin Barbara Austin; 13 step grandchildren and many close friends.
Born January 4, 1943, and raised in Ennis, TX, the son of Robert Longino and Fairy Myrle (Lewis) Wear, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. After his discharge, he served as an Ennis police officer before moving to Lancaster, TX, where he served as a police officer until his retirement.
Kent graduated from Ennis High School and attended Navarro Junior College. An avid sports fan, for a short time he was the Sports Writer for the Ennis Daily News. He was in the choir at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis and then First Baptist Church Lancaster and sang many solos with his beautiful tenor voice. He was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church Lancaster as well. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Quitman at the time of his death.
Kent will be remembered for his love for his family and his church, his outstanding career as a police officer, his love of sports, and his amazing sense of humor.
A memorial service is planned on Kent’s birthday January 4, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Quitman, TX.
