Billy Hugh Horton
Mr. Billy Hugh Horton, Sr., 81, of Oak Valley passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Twilight Nursing Center in Corsicana, TX. He was born on January 8, 1938 in Kaufman County, Texas to Bryon Hugh and Oma Wright (Chambers) Horton.
Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. An avid woodworker, he loved working with his hands and selling his creations at Canton Trade Days. He also loved fishing, being outdoors, and sitting on the porch with family. Billy served his community as a past mayor of Oak Valley and past president of the Corsicana Bass Club. He was a member of the Ennis Lodge of Odd Fellows #227 for over 50 years. He was always ready to help out a neighbor, preach life lessons to anyone who would listen, or dig into a gallon of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. He will be remembered by his family as a hardworking man who loved deeply and laughed often.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Margie Parsons; brother, Calton Horton; his son, Stan Horton. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gayle Horton, along with his sister Lottie Klutts; brother, Phillip Horton (Kaye); son, Billy Hugh Horton, Jr. (Lynette); grandsons, Justin Horton (Kristin), Brandon Horton (Dana), and Gregory Luke; granddaughters, Brooke Pittman (Tony), Emily Myanna (Tegra), Kara Welch (Landin), and Taylor Luke. He is also survived by his seven great-grandchildren, lifelong friends who are like family Jean, Anita and Doug Whitten, extra special great-niece Tiffany Gillen along with numerous extended family and friends,. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Twilight Nursing Home for the support and care they provided during this time.
Visitation with the family was held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services was held on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Cowboy Church of Ennis with Michael Howard officiating. Burial was followed at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Justin Horton, Brandon Horton, Gregory Luke, Chad Hunnicutt, Jimmy Taylor and Jessie Graham serving as pallbearers.
