County shutting down vaccine hub in June
Ellis County announced plans to disband its vaccine hub in June due to a large reduction in the demand for injections to protect against Covid-19. Instead, individuals seeking the vaccine will need to schedule an appointment with Baylor Scott & White or through other private healthcare providers.
Demobilizing the hub will be official on June 4, 2021. According to a statement released by Ellis County Judge Todd Little, the last call for scheduling vaccine appointments at the Hub is during the week of May 10-14.
Supply and demand led to this shift, though residents need not be concerned. The Hub, located at the Waxa--hachie Senior Activity Center, 122 Park Hills Drive (Ph. 469-309-4280), will administer first doses through Friday, May 14, but only second doses starting Wednesday, May 19 until the Hub ceases on Friday, June 4.
Ellis County Emergency Management says that Baylor Scott & White will then take the responsibility of the county’s surplus Pfizer vaccines. First and second dose scheduling can be done at https://www.bswhealth.com/covid-vaccine.
Other healthcare providers such as Ennis Regional Medical Center, Methodist Family Health Center (Midlothian), Methodist Family Health Center at Waxahachie, U.S. Drug Mart, Red Oak Drug and Walgreens will have additional vaccines.

Since the county’s vaccine initiative went into effect on Feb. 2, the Vaccine Hub has administered shots to 73,143 people. Including other efforts, the total rises to 104,000 in Ellis County. Adults age 65 and older who have been fully vaccinated covers 66.41 percent of the age group. “As County Judge, my primary job is to keep our community safe,” said Judge Little. “Through the valiant efforts of many, we have successfully completed this public-private partnership. From local governments to volunteers and first responders, we accomplished this monumental task with remarkable efficiency and will forever be grateful to every person who participated. This Vaccine Initiative has protected the most vulnerable, preserved our healthcare system and resources, and given our citizens the confidence of knowing that in times of need, our community can and will overcome.”
