Maria Soccorro Cornejo

Maria Socorro Cornejo, age 77, passed away on June 13, 2020, in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born on September 12, 1942, in Zacapu, Michoacan, Mexico, to her parents, Maria de la Cruz and Domingo Castro. Maria was a very generous, charitable, and happy woman. She would open her house up to anyone. She enjoyed cooking, listing to music, having her morning coffee, eating spicy food, spoiling her grandchildren, and talking on the phone with her family. Maria, “Mami Coyo,” was a woman who gave an abundant amount of love to her family. She would always give good advice and was good at scolding people when needed. Maria will be deeply missed and forever remembered by so many.

Mami Coyo is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Santiago Artemio Cornejo; 11 children: Santiago Cornejo and wife Silvia, Alfonso Cornejo and wife Teresa, Lourdes Garduño and husband Rodolfo, Edith Cornejo, Raquel Cabrera and husband Herman, Artemio Cornejo and wife Itzia Vianey, Maribel Barragan and husband Jose, Rosalba Santiago and husband Anderson, Ricardo Ruben Cornejo and wife Elizabeth, Edgar Cornejo and wife Lupita and Antonio Cornejo; 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Isabel Castro; brother, Antonio Castro and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jesus, Manuel y Roberto and granddaughter, Izabella Marie.

Visitation for family and friends was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas.

A funeral service was held at 9 a.m., on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Waxahachie Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Waxahachie. Interment followed at Gateway Memorial Park Cemetery.
