Wesley John Valek
Wesley John Valek, 85, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at The Madison on Marsh Nursing Home in Carrollton, Texas.
Mr. Valek was born October 23, 1934, to Joseph A.Valek and Mary Lanicek Valek in Ennis, Texas. He graduated St. John’s High School in Ennis in 1953. After working at Ennis Business Forms and Dallas Power and Light, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He served four years as a survival school instructor in Nevada. After leaving the Air Force, he worked on an Alaskan fishing boat.
Mr. Valek attended East Texas State University, in Commerce Texas, where he received his Master’s Degree in 1965. He married Evelyn Gibson of McKinney on August 27th, 1964. He taught history at Cisco Junior College for 35 years, retiring in 2000.
After retiring, he was able to spend most of his time gardening a variety of vegetables as well as making home-made sauerkraut which was served at his annual family reunion. He also had a passion for poetry, winning first place in a national contest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, six sisters, and his beloved dog Chewy. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, daughters Ingrid Dorer of North Carolina and Rachel Graves of Dallas, five grandchildren, his sister Georgia Salik of Corpus Christi, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
