Wrong-way driver kills local teen

An Aug. 1 (Saturday morning) traffic accident involving three vehicles on southbound I-45 in Trumbull, south of Ferris in Ellis County, claimed the life of a 17-year old local student. According to Sara Warren of the Texas Department of Public Safety, a wrong-way driver crashed head-on with a single passenger vehicle before being hit by a pickup truck.

Norman unseats Edge for county sheriff

Primary runoffs were held on Tuesday, July 14, with Brad Norman, the challenger, ousting incumbent Ellis County Sheriff Chuck Edge, 4,212 votes to 2,972, a 59 to 41 percent victory in the most watched race in the area.

Donning white Stetsons, the veteran lawmen operated respectful campaigns. Edge, the former Waxahachie chief of police, held the post since succeeding Johnny Brown in 2017.

Ellis County continues to post daily news of the impact of Covid-19, which has begun to show progress, including Thursday’s report of more recoveries than active cases. Ennis, whose numbers more than doubled the two largest cities, Waxahachie and Midlothian, a month ago, has seen only a slight increase.

Ellis County residents can find solace in two numbers heading into the Eastern weekend. First, the Stay Home, Stay Safe order has drawn to within two-and-one-half weeks of ending. Second, the death toll related to the effects of coronavirus remains at two for another week.
