Waxahachie names new Head Coach

The Waxahachie School board of trustees voted to approve the contract with Shane Tolleson as the district's new head football coach. Tolleson comes to Waxahachie from Denton Ryan. As a  defensive coordinator Tolleson assisted in leading the team to a state championship. Tolleson was introduced at the board meeting by Superintendent Cain, who noted his 19 years of coaching experience. The decision made was that he "would be the best to lead our program into the future," said Cain.

This just in, the City of Ennis has installed two special, limited-time photo-opportunities for Valentines Day. Two huge hearts at Minnie McDowal Park on N. Dallas St. and Knox St., and a puppy kissing booth at the Puppy Patch on Baylor St.

“People just love photo opps,” said Ennis Communications Director Ashley Colunga, “and these turned out incredible.”

Next weekend there will be carriage rides, mini donuts, red and pink twinkling rooftop lights, love music and a magician to make downtown extra special for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Congressman Ron Wright passes at the age of 67

Ron and Susan Wright shared a deep and abiding relationship with their Lord and Savoir. For that reason, Ron remained stoic in the face of his health challenges and incredibly upbeat about the future of the state and the nation he loved so much.

Congressman Ron Wright passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Feb. 7, 2021. His wife Susan was by his side and he is now in the presence of their Lord and Savior.

NARFE Monthly Meeting Canceled

Eleazar Carrillo passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones at home.

Eleazar was born to father, Anacleto Carrillo, and mother, Maria Reyna, on June 7, 1931, in Palau, Coahuila. He was the oldest of five siblings.

Eleazar was preceded in death by his wife, Delfina Carrillo; his parents; his sisters, Alicia Quintanilla and Teresa Perez; one brother, Ramiro Carrillo, and one great grandchild.

Bettye L. Brandon, 63, passed away on Jan. 29, 2021.

Viewing was held Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Superior Care Funeral Services Chapel, 320 W. 6th Ave., Corsicana, Texas 75110.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin St., Corsicana.

Services were under the direction of Superior Care Funeral Services.

Bennie Welch

Bennie Welch, 96, of Telico, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

Bennie was born in Alvin, Texas, on April 23, 1924, to John and Kate (Chambers) Welch. He grew up in Alvin, Texas, and on April 10, 1944, he married his sweetheart, Lois Doughit, and they made their home in Dallas.

Bennie served his country proudly in the United States Army.

Bennie was a supervisor for Welch Construction for over 35 years. He was a member of the VFW and Sokol for 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding horses.
