Palmer completed the 2020 volleyball season with the best record among the Big 5 teams in Eastern Ellis County. HC Melanie Barnes led the Lady Bulldogs to a 14-10 mark, going 8-6 in District 18-3A. The team was upended by No. 5 ranked Lorena (22- 4), 3-0, in the bi-district playoff round.

During the season the netters had three winning streaks of five straight, and two others with three consecutive victories. The last one boosted them to 14-8 before a 3-1 setback at Eustace and then came the playoff defeat at the hands of Lorena.

For the second year in a row and third in school history, all during HC Don Waddle’s tenure, Palmer has won a district championship in football. The Bulldogs had to beat Dallas Gateway in the season finale and they had to have help from Blooming Grove.

Big 5 football teams, Ferris, Palmer, Italy and Avalon have three weeks remaining in their regular seasons, with each of them in the hunt for a playoff berth. All of them have big encounters scheduled this week and two – Palmer and Italy, have their sights strongly set on a district championship.
