Downtown holiday events biggest ever in Ennis

Christmas and New Year’s Eve events were at a premium in Ennis last month as locals enjoyed the city’s stepped up holiday festivities.

“It’s so awesome,” commented Ennis Mayor Angie Juenemann.

Beginning mid-December, it’s been a full roster of varied activity downtown for locals: snow-tubing fun that kids love; the “Lights of Ennis” program of illuminated homes and businesses; and 2021’s biggest new feature, the first ever New Year’s Eve civic entertainment mixed with the official launch of its Sesquicentennial celebration, observing the Bluebonnet City’s 150th birthday.

San Jacinto Auditorium

Built in the 1960s on the site of the former Old Alamo Elementary School, San Jacinto Auditorium is now a community-utilized facility serving as a venue for a variety of events, from meetings to concerts. At least two instances of ghosts are connected with the building. One involves strange sounds in the offices and classrooms at the rear of the building. Described as chairs being slid across the floor, the activity has been attributed to a former Ennis High theater director named Fred Rankin who died in a car accident in the 1970s.

Local student earns high honor

Midwestern State University recognized 1,036 honor students for the Fall 2021 semester, including Ennis native, Caden Corry, who was credited, along with 369 others for the President’s Honor Roll.

A student who completes 12 hours in one semester with no grade lower than A (4.0) will be included on the President’s Honor Roll.

Caden Corry, who is studying Finance, is among those with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
