Ennis Independent School District has announced the 2021 teachers of the year.  Georgina Hurtado teaches at Carver Early Childhood Center and has been named Elementary Teacher of the year.  She will move on to the regional level and be considered for the Region 10 Teacher of the Year, which will be named in late July.

Area Agency on Aging of North Central Texas and James L. West Center for Dementia Care will host an online webinar on Managing Challenging Behaviors in Dementia: Physical and Emotional. Like cream rising to the top, one of the strengths of Theatre Rocks, playwrighting, was thrust front and center with the completion of their first-ever nationwide competition. Lily Derr, of Waxahachie High School, was one of four finalists, including the winner, 70-year-old Linda LaRocque.

Her winning script, “Town Car for Sale,” will be performed this weekend, June 11-12, as well as June 18-19 and 25-26, all at 7:30 p.m. Bill Rhoten will direct the LaRocque (LaROHK) script. In fact, she will be on-hand at Friday’s opening night.

Ennis people and events have often made regional, even national, news. And on occasion, a note of levity marked the various stories of local interest that appeared in daily and weekly newspapers across the country. A couple of years ago I first shared some of these funny bits from the past and I was asked recently to collect a few more. I was happy to oblige and in fact very much enjoyed turning up some of these new additions.
