Highway 34 dangers

This week’s deadly wreck cost the lives of two truck drivers. A number of phone calls were made to The Ennis News’ offices, along with photos and video footage.

The stretch of pavement that connects Ennis with Scurry, Rosser and Kaufman has long been associated for wreaking havoc. Speed, no shoulders and two lanes, combined with 27 mostly-open miles between I-45 and US 175, has witnessed its share of fender-benders and fatalities.

Knox Street improvements begin

Knox Street

Work downtown on Knox Street, between NW Main St. and McKinney Street, has begun. It is long over due after being patched numerous times through the years. Old pavers are being salvaged and the street is being replaced.

It will be completed in one year, according to results of a leadership meeting this week. Combined with the longer-than-expected project on Dallas Street, the Knox Street project will be great upon completion. It will require patience and a side of extra vision for workers, pedestrians and vehicles.

Friends of the Library Book Sales Canceled for 2020

The Friends of the Library have announced there will be no book sales for the remainder of 2020. As an alternative to the sales, the book donation shelves and magazine shelves have been converted to an area where you can purchase books to help fund library programs. The shelves will be continuously restocked, so come by often to check them out.
