There is a long-standing perception that women tend to focus on their health more than men do. Unfortunately, it’s a perception that rings all too true. A survey cited in a 2019 article from AARP found that only half of the men surveyed get regular check-ups and 72 percent preferred household chores over going to the doctor. While it’s true that women are more accustomed to regular doctor visits from an early age, it’s not an excuse for men to take their eye off the ball when it comes to their health.

Followers, even critics of the Ennis Police Department have united over the hire of new Chief of Police, Dustin Munn. Following an elevenmonth void at the top, acquiring Munn drew its share of positives from those in the area.

Thanks to David Anthony’s interim work the vacuum was hardly detected, especially during the pandemic and the move into the new Public Safety Facility on Lake Bardwell Road. A short rise in murders that have seen arrests in most and the discovery of a submerged car in a local body of water all occurred during his tenure.

One conversation with Jeremy Scruggs, the head of the Ennis ISD police, will have you as confident as a card player holding four aces. His work as the top cop of a crew that covers every campus in town is well-warranted.

This fall will be the 25th year of the EISD funding the Blue on campus. It has expanded and has added programs to build pro-active relationships, as opposed to reactive, with mentoring driving relationships with students. He did laugh about one of them. “It was called “Donuts with a Dog,” when meeting the K9 cop was introduced,” he explained.

Gov. Abbott to sign bill to allow holstered carry without a permit

Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1927 on Wednesday to allow holstered handguns to be carried in Texas without a permit. Starting on Sept. 1st,  anyone 21 years old or older, who can legally possess a firearm in Texas can carry a handgun in public without a permit. The current law allows residents 21 years or older to carry a handgun only if they have completed the required training and criminal background check to obtain a license to carry. Gov.

City announces Munn as new Chief of Police

Ennis announced on Thursday, June 9, that Dustin Munn has accepted an offer as its new Police Chief. He has numerous ties to the area and comes highly recommended.

City leadership utilized a wide net to develop a candidate pool, primarily with Strategic Government Resources (SGR) conducting an extensive search. They are an executive recruitment firm based in Keller, Texas, specializing in recruiting, assessing, and developing innovative, collaborative and authentic leaders for local governments.

But in his twelve months of serving as the interim top cop after former Chief Andy Harvey departed, Anthony did the yeoman’s work without the spotlight or credit.

Dee-Dee Gryder retires after 20 years at Crockett

A woman with a passion for training up young children has met a forced detour in her career, but she refuses to let retirement keep her from the life she’s known and led.

Dee-Dee Gryder welcomed the first students and faculty onto the campus at Crockett Early Childhood Center in Ennis 20 years ago, and has served as the principal ever since. That is, until a nasty fall at school, on the ice, back in February. The surprise weather system left treacherous roads and walkways where she slipped and had a hard landing on concrete.

Fatality on Hwy 287 at Motorplex

A two-vehicle collision near the Texas Motorplex on U.S. Highway 287 at Boyce Road left one man dead and two passengers injured on Sunday morning, June 6.

The accident at 11:26 a.m. halted traffic for miles while the Ennis Police Department and emergency responders served those involved.

Ellzey accepting Armed Forces grant apps

Representative Jake Ellzey is now accepting applications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship. The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program was created in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the State who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in the Texas State Guard, Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Merchant Marine or to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services.
