Ellis Co. courthouse tours offered

County Judge Todd Little has announced free public tours of the county’s Historic Courthouse every Friday at 12 noon through September 3, 2021.

According to Public Information Specialist Corey Rogan, the tours will last about 45 minutes. Each attending party is asked to bring no more than 15 persons.

Reserving school field trip dates is advised in advance at 972-825-5087. Attendees are asked to arrive prior to noon and wait for the tour guide on the first floor of the Historic Courthouse, which is located at 101 W. Main St, Waxahachie, TX 75165.

Republican Jake Ellzey will finish the term of former Congressman Ron Wright in the United States House of Representatives after defeating Susan Wright in the special election runoff Tuesday night.

City introduces Munn as new Police Chief

Just days after being sworn in as the new Ennis Chief of Police, Dustin Munn was introduced by City Manager Marty Nelson at this week’s city commission meeting on July 19. He spoke briefly about the honor it is to serve the town he once called home.

Extra seating was needed to accommodate those in attendance, including Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman, EPD Assistant Chief David Anthony and Lieutenants Mike Hopson and Fred Pontley, Detective Sergeant Rodney Rickman and others.

A speeding violation (55 mph in a 35-mph zone) in the 100 block of East Freeman and North Kaufman on Saturday evening, July 17, drew a large crowd of bystanders and ended with four individuals being arrested by Ennis police officers for interfering with a public officer from doing his duties.

GAKAC set for Aug. 7

Momentum for the start of the new school year will provide a big boost for students when the annual Give-A-Kid-A-Chance takes place on Saturday, Aug. 7. The faith-based initiative is from 8 a.m. until noon at Ennis High School.

GAKAC will serve the needs of 1,400 students. The back-to-school program helps families get ready for the start of the fall semester.

Ennis Police respond to complaints about incident

Ennis Police Department reported a normal traffic stop on Saturday night, July 17, which drew a crowd that ultimately ended with officers arresting four adults on charges related to people interrupting them from handling their initial reason, a speeding driver in a residential area on North Kaufman Street.

According to their report, Natalie Tyner was cited for driving 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. There were conflicting reports about what was said as well as a lack of compliance by individuals to commands from the officer before he called for assistance.
